Roses Are Red

I have been working on this project all week, here and there. I saw this fabulous idea at The Idea Room.net and of course, had to incorporate My Spin. I've been seeing all of these lovely flowers on Pinterest, made out of felt and paper and had to try a few myself. 

When I think of Valentine's Day, I think of red roses:

It all started from two old recliner springs and some wire...

The circles were around 3 1/2 in diameter. I used small sheets of felt (bought from Wal-Mart); folds in thirds and then in half and that made 6 circles per sheet; 22 sheets of 132 circles. I used pins to pin the roses and several mini sticks of hot glue later, tadaaaah!

Fix It or Trash It: Project #2

So, I bought this adorable vintage candy dispenser at a yard sale years ago. As a matter of fact, I couldn't tell you how many years ago it was. It has $3 on the bottom is Sharpie Pen, but I don't think I even paid that for it. I HAD to have it (if you're a yardsaler, you know that goes). It's been in pieces since I bought it, underneath my hutch. Since I've started couponing, I needed more room to stash my stockpile, so it was time to Fix It or Trash It! 

Owen loves marbles, but my feet do not! I had to find a home for the marbles and so it goes....

Yard Sale Find: Before

I'm notorious for picking something up at a yard sale, Goodwill, Salvation Army or a local consignment  shop with the intentions (the best intentions) of "fixing" it and it making it mine. I've always had a knack for putting my spin on an otherwise unusable object. I used to make clothes for my Barbie Dolls out of my old clothes. The thing is, it takes me forever to get around to it; whatever it is!

I made a deal (with myself), fix it or throw it in the trash! Well, this is Project #1 and I think it turned out pretty cute. The frame was really cool, but just didn't measure up (to me) with plain wood. The plexi-glass is a little scratched up, but you really can't see it too bad. I painted the frame black, washed up the glass and inserted my favorite subject --- Owen.

Yard Sale Find: After

It only costed a couple of bucks and it's cute now! I've had this frame for five years or more, crammed into whatever space I could fit it in without bending it! Finally finished =)

A Shadow Box of Love For My Foundation

This has taken me months to finally decide how I wanted to do the shadow box. I decided since she and I have always spent time together at the beach, that's how I would present it. The shells inside are all shells from Surf City, NC that she and I picked up together over a long period of time. There is one that we found on Jekyll when the pictures were taken. Gramma, Owen and I had a lovely day on the beach that day in April of 2011. It had been one year since Smokey, Owen, she and I had taken our last trip with him to the same area. It's funny, I didn't realize it until we were there and neither did she, it was somehow meant to be (for us to go).

The Baby's Ear shells are a tribute to him and his love for the beach and the entire box is a tribute to her because she used to make shell pictures when she was raising her children living on Topsail Island, NC in the "round house" (which, as far as I know, is still there).

The first step was painting the box white, then came gluing sand (from Owen's sandbox) to the back board. After, I decided which pictures to use, printed them out and glued them to a netting that came on Owen's new sand toys from the beach the other day. I added some star scrapbooking paper, a Family word cut-out, driftwood  and lots of beautiful shells we picked up together! Tadaaaaaaaaaaaah!
